Moody's diagnosis ends his year, with a return date not expected until December 1. He was having a career year, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 25.7 minutes before the injury. With him gone, Golden State's backcourt minutes open up for Payton.
Across 21 games without Moody this season, Payton has averaged 23.63 FPG on 21.4 minutes, compared to 14.53 FPG on 13.8 minutes with him on the floor. Twenty-one games is a solid sample, not a fluke.
He sits at 17.1 FPG on the season, ranked 273rd, and is only 10.39% rostered, so he should be easy to find on the wire. Worth noting a usage signal has cooled slightly over his last 10 games, but the added minutes should more than offset that.
